Zahira Alcover, M.Ed.

Educational Diagnostician at Ethos Wellness Woodway

Texas State Board for Educator Certified Educational Diagnostician Zahira Alcover possesses a strong passion in working with children of various ages who possess different educational needs and abilities; Zahira enjoys working with those children and their families in both English and Spanish. Her goal is to ensure each child’s educational abilities and challenges are identified in order for their individual educational needs to be properly addressed and supported.

She recognizes the courage and commitment it takes for parents of children with educational challenges to seek help and guidance. Her goal is for children to have the very best opportunity to reach their full academic and post-secondary school potential, enabling them to face the world with increased hope and possibilities, as well as to find purpose and fulfillment.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, Zahira’s  job is to conduct psychoeducational evaluations that encompass a view of the whole child (Health, Behavior, Language, Academic/Development, Sociological and Intellectual) to determine if the student meets State and Federal criteria as a student with an educational disability or rule out an educational disability (such as a Specific Learning Disability with the condition of Dyslexia, Intellectual Disability, etc.). Based on the results of the evaluation, Zahira creates tailored instructional recommendations and accommodations that assist school personnel and parents in gaining a deeper understanding of the student’s strengths and areas of growth. This facilitates the Section 504 Plan and/or developing a Special Education Individual Education Plan for the student.

Zahira has a Master of Education in Special Education from Prairie View A&M University. As an educator with 28 years of experience, she has had the pleasure of working with some of the best school districts in Texas, including but not limited to Katy ISD, Spring Branch ISD, and Harmony Public Schools.. Zahira has held positions such as Bilingual Third Grade Teacher, Secondary Spanish Teacher, ESL Middle School Teacher, Campus Educational Diagnostician, Bilingual Assessment Specialist and District Diagnostician.

Zahira is married; she, her husband, and their dog, Molly, love to travel, explore old historic Texas towns, and to go camping.
