Dr. Lauren Katzell

MD · Psychiatrist

Dr. Katzell is a physician originally from Florida, currently completing her final year of psychiatry training at the University of Texas at Austin. She is licensed to practice in both Texas and Florida. She completed her undergraduate and medical education at the University of Florida through an accelerated honors program.

In addition to her work at Ethos Wellness, Dr. Katzell has experience in acute care and respite settings, and has spent over two years treating veterans at the Austin VA Clinic, where she worked in medication management, psychotherapy, and intranasal ketamine clinics. She has cared for patients across a wide range of ages and clinical presentations.

Her main interests in psychotherapy include trauma therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, exposure and response prevention therapy, and somatic integration and processing therapy. She is certified in cognitive processing therapy and credentialed in somatic integration and processing therapy as well as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. She believes healing happens best when psychotherapy and medicine work hand in hand, and she weaves therapeutic strategies into every patient encounter.

She has published and presented research on topics including neuromodulation therapies, community mental health programs, maternal and fetal safety of antipsychotic medications, and humanistic approaches to psychiatric care, and has received recognition for both her research and clinical work during residency.

When she's not in the office, you'll likely find Dr. Katzell curled up with a good book, experimenting in the kitchen, flowing through a yoga or pilates class, or planning her next trip. She sees patients in person at our Austin office and through virtual care across Texas.
