Philip Young works together with his clients to promote healing by providing tools and support and leading them to insight and understanding of themselves, all of which facilitates change. He understands and appreciates the pressures and challenges inherent in the context of today’s achievement and success oriented society. Philip works with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. When working with adolescents who are struggling with independence and autonomy, Philip helps them explore and identify their true potential. This work often surrounds addictions and special occasion adoption issues. His work with adult clients facing life’s challenges focuses on relationship with self and others, as well as providing a safe space for accurate reflection.The treatment modalities and interventions he utilizes include: psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure response prevention (ERP), solution focused therapy, and other evidence based practices. His clinical areas of interest include depression, anxiety, ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, developmental trauma, adoption issues, chemical dependency, stress management, and life transitions. Philip holds both a Master’s degree in Counseling and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. While receiving his MA in Counseling from St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX, Philip developed and facilitated an anger management program implemented at the Travis County Juvenile Probation Department. He subsequently received his MA in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University after completing two doctoral level clinical practicums, the first being at a spiritually based group private practice called the New Life Institute. Philip then returned to Houston and completed the second of his practicums at Behavior Therapy of Houston which specializes in treating obsessive-compulsive disorder. He continues to facilitate its bi-monthly OCD support group. His research interests include, attachment styles, narcissism/masochistic character type, and adoption trauma.
