Nikki Hune, Ph.D., LMSW

Nikki Hune is a Licensed Master Social Worker who received her doctorate in Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies. Both her clinical experience and research agenda focus on co-occurring serious mental health conditions and substance use disorders with a specific focus on schizophrenia, suicide, medication-assisted treatment/harm reduction and clinical efficacy as it relates to human suffering, intersubjective phenomenology and interpersonal connectedness. Her educational experiences are rooted in social work ethics and philosophy; theories of subjectivity, selfhood and intersubjectivity; family dynamics, and general human development.
Regarding nonprofit leadership and program development, Nikki has previously spent her time exploring strategies to reduce mental health stigma by incorporating expressive arts as an empirically-supported, complementary intervention to mental health treatment. In 2016, she founded What it’s Like Project, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to reducing mental health stigma through the arts, education and community engagement.
