LAURA CHILDERS, MA, LPC, BCN, QEEG-D
Neurotherapist at Ethos Behavioral Health Group
Laura Childers is a seasoned Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in qEEG, also referred to as “brain mapping” and Neurotherapy.
Prior to her involvement with Neurofeedback, Laura focused on helping individuals dealing with trauma, addiction, anxiety and depression. When she discovered Neurotherapy and qEEG, her view of these and related disorders evolved. Laura’s practice is now more holistic, centered on healing both mind and body.
Laura has been trained by various experts in the field of Neurofeedback and qEEG and travels regularly to conferences and seminars to keep her knowledge on the cutting-edge. She is a member of the Applied Association of Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB) and The International Society of Neurofeedback and Research (ISNR) professional organizations, earned her Board Certification in Neurofeedback and has attained the level of Diplomate in qEEG technologies (QEEG-D).
Many of Laura’s clients have gone through multiple other professionals and treatment programs looking to resolve their medical/mental health issues, without finding the relief they are seeking. By mapping the brain, she uses her knowledge of its structure and function, as well as her understanding of brain waves and neurophysiology during neurofeedback sessions to discover solutions to their symptoms.
Her work is holistic, taking into account mind, body, habits and relationships. For this reason, recommendations for medical testing such as sleep studies, nutritional evaluations and referral to an internist, endocrinologist or neurologist may be given based on the results of a client’s qEEG. To help direct clients to the appropriate specialists, Laura has enrolled in Neurophysiology coursework. She believes that in order to accomplish healing, it is vital to work towards discovering the root cause(s) of an issue, and she often collaborates with other professionals in her attempt to help clients find answers and relief.
Laura is passionate about the work she does in this field and is honored to take part in healing the brains of those with trauma, OCD, anxiety, addictions, attention issues, autism, traumatic brain injury, sleep disorders, depression and numerous other issues, including the use of qEEG to suggest medication recommendations.
She attended the University of Houston for her undergraduate degree in psychology, minoring in anthropology. She also took many courses in French culture and heritage and lived abroad in Bourges, France for two months, spending a third traveling throughout Europe. Moving on to the University of Texas at Tyler for her master’s, Laura had the opportunity to assist in a group for children with sexual trauma, and she pursued the same focus during her first counseling job at a residential treatment center for children in foster care. Later, Laura presented internationally on this topic after co-founding another group for children dealing with trauma.
At home, Laura has three beautiful children, and she is continually grateful for the gift of family. She also values close friendships in her community, as well as professional relationships in her field. Laura is thoughtful and intuitive with her family, friends and clients. She enjoys nature, is active in prayer groups and believes in keeping her own body and mind healthy, as she teaches her clients.
