Christy Barrera

Christy Barrera, LMSW

Group Leader | Clinician at Ethos Wellness

As a Licensed Master Social Worker at Ethos Wellness Prism and Woodway, Christy co-facilitates adult Intensive Outpatient Groups, utilizing the skills of Dialectical Behavior Therapy. In addition, she co-facilitates the multifamily group for the adolescent IOP and sees adult and adolescent individual outpatient clients. Christy works to build a strong rapport with clients by bringing curiosity, empathy, and a compassionate responsiveness to each interaction.

Although Christy has spent much of her adult life outside of the professional workforce while raising children and homeschooling them, she has always had a desire to help others. After recent significant life changes, Christy unearthed a true passion in the field of social work and completed a Master of Social Work with a concentration in Integrated Behavioral Health from the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work at Baylor University in August of 2024.

Through her year-long internship at Ethos, Christy has discovered a genuine passion for group work and the therapeutic value cultivated there through the bonds of human relationships. Christy has also seen the transformative power of DBT skills to change the lives of those who learn and implement them.

At home, Christy is a single mother to three teenagers, David, Eliana, and Jonathan. She and her children love to travel, spend time in nature, and experience the arts together. Christy makes every effort to keep an open door and open dialogue with her kids, as they navigate towards independence.
